19-year-old Ellie from Tameside has recently completed her Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship with GC Education and Skills.
Ellie left school without achieving any GCSEs, and after 2 years of college - where she completed her Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in childcare – she wanted to step away from the classroom and do something more hands-on. So, she decided to enrol onto a Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship. Ellie was working in a nursery and attending sessions in Manchester City Centre once a month, which suited her. As well as her Level 3 Childcare, Ellie was also attending lessons for her Level 2 maths, English and ICT.
Bethann Dithcher, Ellie’s Skills Development Coach, said; “When Ellie started with us, she had been struggling at college. She had just resat her GCSEs, which she had sadly failed. Ellie was very shy and didn’t have a lot of confidence, however whilst studying with us and with the support of her placement. I saw Ellie’s confidence grow. Ellie is now much more confident and happier in herself, which is a delight to see. She is a very talented young lady, and with her sign language skills she is a great asset to any nursery.”
Speaking of the support she received whilst studying at the Growth Company, Ellie said; “My tutor was very supportive, and I knew that she was always at the end of the phone if I needed anything. I faced a few challenges whilst studying, so being able to have hands-on support has given me much more confidence.”
She added: “I would recommend the Growth Company to anyone who is wanting to study, as all staff are friendly and are very hands-on with support wherever needed.”
With hard work and dedication, Ellie passed her apprenticeship as well as achieving a Level 2 in maths, English and ICT – well done Ellie!
