About this opportunity

You will be responsible for the construction of the steel reinforcement which forms a vital part of any concrete structure, building the frame of the building.

You will work with various diameters of steel that will need to be cut to length, bent to shape and fixed together, following the exact specification shown in the drawings or digital model. The work will be predominantly outdoors and you will be required to work closely with our formwork carpenters and concrete operatives to ensure productivity is maximised. On-site training and experience will be complemented by extensive construction college apprenticeship programme that will lead to you becoming a competent Steel Fixer.

You will have the opportunity to work across some of Laing O’Rourke’s various projects giving you a vast range of experience in a growing and exciting environment.

A normal day would include
No day would be the same, although on a normal day you would be mainly outside and duties would include:
Maintaining a safe environment overall
Physical activities such as unloading, lifting and fixing the steel structure
Working across various sites and structures
Working in a team

What you could go on to do
You will achieve a technical certificate and Level 2 NVQ in Steel Fixing. Once completed you will have the opportunity to work towards becoming a supervisor, with further development opportunities within the business.

How you will be supported
You will have an onsite mentor who will advise and guide you through your work day to day and will support you through college, whilst further skills and training will be provided to you alongside your apprenticeship cohort of that year.
