Green Skills Academy hosts region’s CEIAG 19+ providers
This week we welcomed careers advisors and staff from across Greater Manchester to our Green Skills Academy for Manchester City Councils’ CEIAG 19+ Working Group event.
The CEIAG 19+ Working Group consists of skills and training providers and careers organisations that regularly come together to explore ways of sharing good practice and how to strengthen careers work in Greater Manchester.
As it’s Green Careers Week (4th to 9th November), our Green Skills Academy was chosen as the venue to highlight the growing importance of green skills and careers in the region and give attendees the opportunity to engage with green employers.
Tony McKie, Head of Adult Learning at the Growth Company, said: “Our Green Skills Academy was launched to support Greater Manchester’s net zero by 2038 ambition by addressing the skills gap in the region. As a one-stop-shop for residents looking to kick-start their careers in emerging technologies and for businesses preparing their workforce, the Academy provides essential training to support the sector’s growth.
“A key focus of the Academy is engaging with our local communities, and this event was a fantastic opportunity for us, and our partners, to form new connections across the region, showcasing the critical role of green skills in the future job market and how we can support individuals in accessing career opportunities in the sector.”
Cllr Hacking, the Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure at Manchester City Council, said: “We were delighted to welcome colleagues and staff from across Greater Manchester to the Green Skills Academy for Manchester City Council’s CEIAG 19+ Working Group event. Hosting this event during Green Careers Week highlights the critical role green skills play in our region’s future. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the career pathways available in the green sector and foster collaboration among local career and training providers committed to supporting sustainable careers."
Some of our Academy employer partners also attended the event to talk about their involvement in the Academy and their ambitions for the next generation of the green sector.
Jordan Smith, National Account Manager at UK Green Tech, said: “We've been working with the Academy for about a year now, collaborating on training electricians to be level three qualified on solar PV and battery storage. With the sector we’re in we want to do all that we can to help upskill people into the retrofit market and today’s event has been a great opportunity to speak to people who are supporting people into employment in the green skills space.”
Since its launch in January 2022, over 300 Greater Manchester residents have gained new skills in green technologies through programmes delivered at our Green Skills Academy in Trafford Park.
