Chancellor Rishi Sunak set to extend job support schemes

04 Oct 2021

During the Conservative Party Conference speech in Manchester today, 4th October, Chancellor Rishi Sunak is expected to commit £500m to renew job support schemes that were introduced as part of the pandemic response.

During the speech, it is also expected to be announced that the incentive payments for hiring a new apprentice will be extended by four months, until the end of January 2022. This means that employers can apply for payment of £3,000 for hiring new apprentices of any age.

The £3,000 incentive payment is in addition to the £1,000 employers already receive for hiring an apprentice, if they are:

  • aged 16 to 18 years old
  • aged 19 to 24 with an education, health and care plan or who has been in the care of their local authority

To claim the incentives employers must set up an apprenticeship service account.
