Carly Gallagher works for the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Carly left school without a maths qualification and knew that she needed to apply for a maths course to enable her to progress in her career.
The Growth Company are working in partnership with the NHS to deliver maths, English and digital skills qualifications to their staff so, when Carly saw the email offering her the opportunity to gain a much-needed maths qualification, she jumped at the chance.
We asked Carly if she had faced any challenges whilst gaining her maths qualification, she said: “Yes, maths isn’t my strong point, but the Growth Company helped me to overcome my worries of not being able to pass.”
Carly was keen to acknowledge her tutor and the support that she received from the Growth Company: “Daniel McManamon has been an amazing tutor and the support he has given has been amazing. I have never been able to get my head around anything maths wise and I feel now I understand it so much more. I received support online, over the telephone and in-person when needed. The Growth Company provide a dashboard that is full of useful resources which are very easy to use. It has information and skill tests to check knowledge and understanding. Honestly, I cannot thank everyone enough!”
Since completing her Level 2 Functional Skills Maths, Carly has been able to follow her dream and become a Police Officer. She is also delighted to now have the confidence to be able to help her children when they bring home maths homework.
When asked Carly if she would recommend the Growth Company, she said: “Definitely, I already have, and my twin sister and a friend are currently progressing through the functional skill levels in maths.”
