Maths Skills (Level 1 & 2)

A Functional Skills qualification takes between 8 to 12 weeks to complete. We offer flexible learning at a pace that meets your needs.
Functional Skills qualifications teach you how to apply practical Maths and English skills to real-life and vocational contexts. Functional Skills are important because they provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding that you will need to progress and succeed. They are also an essential requirement in many job roles within the NHS including higher apprenticeships.
WHEN DOES THE COURSE START?

We understand that you work on an 8-week shift pattern so, you can start this course when it is suitable for you and your work pattern.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?

Topics covered include:

  • Use of number and the number system
  • Use of common measures, shape and space
  • Handling information and data
  • Solving mathematical problems and decision making

On this course you will learn to use mathematical methods and concepts to make informed decisions and solve problems in real-life situations, recognising the importance of mathematics in everyday life and work situations.

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?

On successful completion, you will achieve a Functional Skills qualification.

Achieving a Functional Skills Maths qualification at Level 2 will demonstrate your ability and competence in numeracy and is considered equivalent to a GCSE C/4 or above. Level 2 qualifications are accepted by some universities for entry on to a variety of degree programmes - please check the entry requirements for the university you wish to apply to

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

There are no entry requirements for this course.

Prior to enrolment, you will complete an assessment, the outcome of the assessment will decide which level you will be enrolled on to. There is further information below regarding how to book an assessment.

WHERE WILL I STUDY?

This course is a combination of online and face-to-face learning. 

The face-to-face learning will take place at our Salford Training Centre.

HOW MUCH DOES THE COURSE COST?

This course is FREE to individuals (including those who are employed on the day they start their programme of learning) who:

  • Are a Greater Manchester Resident
  • Aged 19+
  • Have not previously attained a GCSE grade A* to C or grade 4 to 9 in English and maths
  • Does not hold a Functional Skills qualification above or at the level being applied for

HOW DO I BOOK A PLACE ON THE COURSE?

You will need to attend an Information and Enrolment session which will last approximately one hour.

During the session, you will complete a maths and English initial assessment and your enrolment paperwork.
