Level 3 Digital Product Design

What does the course cover?

This course is designed to support learner development into the world of Digital Product Design.

 

Learners will complete the following units:

 

Unit 1: Project Management

  • Understand the principles of project management and the methodologies used by organisations to manage digital product design projects.
  • Explain the stages of the project lifecycle and how they apply to digital product design projects.
  • Describe key concepts, issues and risks when managing digital product design projects.
  • Compare the characteristics of different project management methodologies used by organisations.
  • Produce a project specification for a digital product design project in line with requirements.
  • Use project management software to plan an IT project.
  • Use project management software to monitor a project plan and track progress against the plan.
  • Carry out a post-project review to determine project outcomes.

 

Unit 2 – Digital Product Design and Development

  • Explain types of digital products and their use for different purposes.
  • Explain the characteristics and the visual communication used in the design and development of digital products.
  • Be able to design and create assets, navigation and interactivity for a digital product to meet requirements.
  • Generate design ideas for a digital product.
  • Create assets and user interfaces for a digital product.
  • Develop a digital product in line with requirements.
  • Document processes and techniques used during development.
  • Evaluate a digital product and reflect on own performance in developing it.

 

Unit 3 - User Experience (UX) Design

  • Explain the developments in digital devices and how they impact on society.
  • Explain user experience (UX) design principles factors.
  • Plan the requirements for a user experience (UX) solution for an identified need.
  • Produce schematic design documentation for a user experience (UX) solution.
  • Prepare content for a user experience (UX) solution for an identified need.
  • Develop a user experience (UX) solution to meet requirements.
  • Test and optimise a user experience (UX) solution in response to feedback.
  • Review the user experience (UX) design and development process and outcomes against requirements.

Unit 4 – Web development

  • Describe web components and architecture.
  • Explain the role of the TCP/IP protocol including IPv6.
  • Explain the role of internet service providers (ISPs), web hosting services and domain name registrars.
  • Describe available types of web functionality.
  • Explain the use of web markup and scripting languages.
  • Explain the use and functionality of web runtime environments and web application programming languages.

 

The qualifications purpose is to:

– prepare learners to progress to a qualification in the same sector or a related area at a higher level

– prepare learners for employment within different roles in the digital and creative industries and in other industries that require specific digital and IT skills within Digital Product Design.

When does the course start?

The next cohort will start on Monday 30th September 2024.

This is a part time course that will take place online on the following days:

Monday 09:30 – 16:30
Tuesday 09:30 – 16:30
Thursday 09:30 – 16:30

What will I achieve?

Level 3 Certificate in Digital Product Design

What are the entry requirements?
  • Access to a computer is required
  • Access to Microsoft Teams is required
  • Office software is required.
  • Visual Studio Code is required.
How much does the course cost?
  • For learners aged 19-23 the course will be free (if you do not hold a level 2 or Level 3 Qualification)
  • For Low-waged learners aged 24+ the course will be free, to gain their first full level 2 or 3 IT Qualification.
  • Learners aged 24+ may need to contribute to some costs (£300).
