With a focus on Computer Programming, you'll learn about the principles of computer programming to understand how programming works. You'll also develop text-based programming skills to design and develop your own computer programs.

What does the course cover?

This course is delivered in the Visual Basic programming language and is designed to introduce learners to the world of computer programming.

 

You will:

  • Understand the principles of programming
  • Be able to design a program in response to a client brief
  • Be able to develop a program using a text-based programming language
  • Be able to test, refine, document and review the program

Content will include:

  • Types of programming and the various languages available
  • Using standard Development Environment components
  • Understanding user/solution requirements
  • Creating a program design based on requirements
  • Developing a solution based upon a design and debugging as applicable.
  • Testing a solution, recording the outcomes and implementing changes using appropriate test strategies if needed
  • Documenting and evaluating your solution
What will I achieve?

On successful completion, learners will achieve a Level 2 Award in Digital and IT Skills – Computer Programming Basics.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements for this course, however, you'll need access to the following:

  • Access to a computer 
  • Access to Microsoft Teams 
  • A Microsoft email address is required (hotmail, outlook, live, msn, xbox etc)
  • Microsoft Office software is required

 

This course is suitable for adults.

Where will I study?

This course is delivered online for only four hours each week, with two sessions each Friday, a morning session and an afternoon session.
