Through practical training in our industry-standard SkillCentre, you'll master essential tiling techniques, from surface preparation and tile cutting to applying tiles with precision. Whether you're aiming for an apprenticeship, or an entry-level role, this course is your first step toward a rewarding career in the tiling industry.

What is a Study Programme?
A Study Programme is a course designed for 16-18 year olds who want to progress onto an apprenticeship but don’t feel quite ready. A Study Programme will help you develop essential skills, gain industry-specific knowledge, and become more employable.

What will I learn on the course?

Throughout the course, you will develop practical abilities and an understanding of the industry, covering a range of key topics:

  • Dry Laying of Complex Patterns: Learn how to design and execute intricate tiling patterns with precision.
  • Underfloor Heating: Gain insight into both electrical and pipe-based underfloor heating systems, including installation considerations and how to work around these systems when tiling.
  • Preparation of Walls and Floors: Master surface preparation techniques, ensuring substrates are ready for tiling to a high standard.
  • Tiling Techniques: Develop skills in cutting, positioning, and fixing tiles securely, using a variety of tools and materials.
  • Grouting and Finishing: Learn how to grout and finish tiled surfaces for a professional, polished look.
  • Health, Safety, and Welfare in Construction: Understand industry-standard safety practices, regulations, and the importance of maintaining a safe working environment.
When will I attend?

You will be required to attend the Greater Manchester SkillCentre up to three days per week.

Additional attendance will be required if you have not yet passed your maths and/or English.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

To apply for this qualification, you must have achieved:

  • GCSE grade 2 or above in maths and English, or
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in maths and English
What qualification will I achieve?

On successful completion, you will achieve an NOCN Level 1 Diploma in Tiling.

Will I receive an allowance?

Yes, you will receive an allowance of up to £25 per week. 

How much does the course cost?

The course is FREE for anyone aged 16-18.
