Level 1 Diploma in Automotive Maintenance
The Level 1 Diploma in Automotive Maintenance is the perfect starting point for anyone aged 16-18 who is passionate about vehicles and eager to start a career in the automotive industry. This hands-on study programme provides the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to carry out basic maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of vehicles.
What is a Study Programmes?
A Study Programme is a course designed for 16-18 year olds who want to progress onto an apprenticeship but don’t feel quite ready. A Study Programme will help you develop essential skills, gain industry-specific knowledge, and become more employable.

On this Study Programme you’ll learn about engine systems, electrical components, and workshop safety while gaining practical experience in a professional setting.
You will cover topics that include:
- Basic vehicle maintenance
- Servicing
- Removing and replacing vehicle components from a range of systems including braking, chassis, engines and transmissions
- Vehicle inspections
You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
Yes, you will receive an allowance of up to £25 per week.
To apply for this qualification, you must have achieved:
- GCSE grade 2 or above in maths and English, or
- Functional Skills Level 1 in maths and English
You will be required to attend the Greater Manchester SkillCentre up to three days per week.
Additional attendance will be required if you have not yet passed your maths and/or English.
On successful completion, you will achieve an IMI Level 1 Diploma in Automotive Maintenance.
The course is FREE for anyone aged 16-18.
