This Level 2 Autocare Technician apprenticeship is designed for individuals who:

  • Are interested in starting a career in the automotive industry.
  • Want to gain practical skills and technical knowledge in auto-care and vehicle maintenance.
  • Prefer a hands-on learning experience combined with classroom instruction.
  • Are looking to work in Auto-care or "Fast-Fit" Centres, whether part of national chains or independent businesses.
  • Seek a structured training program that leads to a recognized qualification.
  • Aim to develop skills in vehicle inspection, component replacement, tyre repair, and customer service.

This apprenticeship is suitable for school leavers, career changers, or those currently working in the automotive sector who want to formalise their skills and advance their careers.

What does the course cover?

On this apprenticeship programme, you will need to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours expected from a competent Autocare Technician:

Knowledge:

  • Health and safety
  • Commercial and legislative
  • Technical

Skills:

  • Vehicle inspection
  • Replacement of components
  • Replace and repair tyres
  • Stock procedures
  • Vehicle 4-wheel geometry

Behaviours/Attitudes:

  • Working together and building trust
  • Customer experience and communication
  • Making it happen and commercial awareness
  • Striving for excellence

To move on to the end-point assessment (EPA), you must show evidence of the required knowledge, skills, and behaviours as set out in the standard and have achieved maths and English (Level 1) and taken the test for Level 2.

The EPA is the final stage you will go through to complete your apprenticeship. You must demonstrate your learning to an independent end-point assessor, and the overall grade available is distinction, pass, or fail.

When will I attend?

Attendance is required 1 day per week at the Greater Manchester SkillCentre in Trafford Park.

What will I achieve?

On successful completion, you will achieve a Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

What are the entry requirements?

Ideally, you will have a minimum of 5 GCSE's grade 4/C or above or level 2 equivalent including maths and English.

If you do not hold the recommended English and maths qualifications then, you will need to achieve these prior to taking the end-point assessment.

How much does the course cost?
