Jake Birch registered with The Growth Company in July 2017 with the view of improving his maths and English qualifications; however, Jake’s main interest was to gain work experience in painting and decorating within the construction industry.
Jake secured a placement with Newry Construction Ltd in Liverpool. Jake started his work experience in September 2017 doing painting and decorating. Jake consistently attended St Helens training centre for his academic subjects and never missed any time from placement. Jake was a sociable person and was awarded student of the month in November 2017 due to the excellent feedback he received from his mentor on site.
Bob Beattie, Site Foreman at Newry Construction, said that: “Jake has developed rapidly, he has a very positive attitude and an excellent work ethic.”
Jake successfully passed his maths and English functional skills and was offered a level 2 apprenticeship in painting and decorating at Newry Construction, which he started in January 2018.
Janet Riley, Placement Consultant at St Helens training centre said: “We all wish Jake the very best for his future and the team here at St Helens have no doubt that he will go from strength to strength.”
