“I’ve overcome my dark times, completed my study and found work” – Mohammad’s journey with the Growth Company

19-year-old Mohammad Choudhury, from Manchester, recently achieved his Level 1 Business Administration course – which he completed during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

He didn’t want the current situation to hold him back, so he wasted no time in updating his CV and LinkedIn profile, and signed up to various online jobs boards. Despite many companies having to halt recruitment as a result of COVID-19, Mohammad was able to secure a telephone interview within a matter of days, and he made it through to the second stage – which was a more formal group interview via Zoom.

It’s safe to say that Mohammad impressed the interviewers, and after completing some questions over email, he was offered the role. Mohammad started his new venture this week, and he’s looking forward to getting stuck in and putting everything he’s learned on his course into practice in a real work environment.

Speaking of his experience of learning with the Growth Company – and overcoming some personal challenges - Mohammad said: “I approached the Growth Company because it was close to my area, and they offered the course that I wanted to do. They provided amazing, caring and understanding key workers who helped me a lot. I had some personal matters that I was able to talk to them about. My key workers listened and gave me advice on what to do – this helped me to become a stronger and better person.”

Given that it’s Mental Health Awareness Week this week, Mohammad was also keen to share some important advice for anyone who may be struggling. He said: “Speaking about my personal matters made a massive impact on my life because I learned that it’s better to talk than hide it. Everyone has problems, and if you want the problem to be solved you need to speak to someone you can trust.”

Mohammad also spoke highly of the Growth Company, praising the style of teaching and the holistic support offered to students. He added: “I’d recommend the Growth Company because the teachers and keyworkers are genuinely supportive and caring – something which is often lacking in sixth forms or from other training providers. The key workers are brilliant! I personally think that they deserve so much credit because they helped me through my dark times and now I’ve started to see the light.”

Despite only being a couple of days into his new role, thing are going really well for Mohammad. We’re so proud of him for completing his course, overcoming his personal battles and finding work – all whilst we’re in the midst of a global pandemic. Well done Mohammad!
