Congratulations to GC learner, Lindsay Smith, who has been named the winner of the Higher Education category at last night’s Manchester Adult Education and Skills Plan Awards.
Held at Manchester Metropolitan University’s new School of Digital Arts (SODA), the awards celebrated high-achieving adult learners across the city, as well as businesses and tutors that have supported them on their learning journey and helped them to thrive.
Lindsay, who will graduate with a 2:1 in her Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship this summer, was commemorated for completing her studies whilst stepping into a demanding management role and juggling home-schooling her children throughout the pandemic.
“Lindsay has my full admiration. I know that she, like thousands of others, have had to balance childcare, home schooling and work over the past 18 months and she also has had, of course, to continue with her studies. She has always remained positive and enthusiastic, though. I feel extremely fortunate to have other colleagues in my team who have been very supportive to Lindsay – it has been a real team effort, but it is not just one way. Lindsay has also been hugely supportive to them, and me, during the last 18 months. She has been a credit to the team!"
The Manchester Adult Education and Skills Plan aims to make Manchester the best city for adult education and skills by 2025. The aim is to inspire residents to prioritise their self-development, while working with employers and learning providers to create quality employment opportunities for the people of Greater Manchester.
“We are delighted to be successful in winning the Higher Education category in the Manchester Adult Education and Skills Awards, and we are extremely proud of Lindsay’s achievements. We know she will go on to do great things! We are proud to receive this recognition in the adult education and skills field and show the impact our organisation has, not only on individual’s lives and careers but the massive commitment our learners and employers show to developing themselves and their teams. We will continue to deliver world-class education and value the adult education and skills system whilst actively engaging in shaping programmes that help them to thrive. We look forward to the next MAESP awards ceremony to showcase the fantastic work our learners achieve!”
Well done, Lindsay – what a fantastic achievement!
