The Level 1 Construction Skills qualifications provide the ideal introduction to the construction industry and covers essential skills in the following construction trades: bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating, construction operations, wall and floor tiling and plumbing.

When does the course start?

August and September 2024.

Don't worry if you are not ready to start with us in August or September, if we have space you can join this course throughout the year.

What does the course cover?

The qualifications cover a range of hand-skills and practical tasks in the following trade areas:

  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Plastering
  • Wall and Floor Tiling
  • Painting & Decorating
  • Construction Operations
  • Plumbing

If you do not hold the relevant English and maths qualifications, you will work towards them as part of this programme.

You may also be interested in completing a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment alongside.

When will I attend?

Your attendance will depend on your timetable. We will go through this information with you in detail when you enrol..

Will I receive a bursary?

Yes, you will receive a bursary of up to £10.50* per day.

*Subject to adhering to the attendance and behaviour polices.

What will I achieve?

On successful completion you will achieve either a:

  • Level 1 Award in Construction Skills
  • Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills
  • Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills

The duration of the course will depend on the qualification, your Tutor will discuss this with you.

You may then wish to progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Maintenance Operations (Construction), please speak to your Tutor for further information.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements however, you will need to complete an initial assessment and informal interview.

What does the course cost?

The course is FREE for anyone aged 16-18 or 19-24 with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).
