Through expert-led training in our fully equipped SkillCentre, you'll learn essential plastering methods, including applying plaster to surfaces, preparing materials, and working safely on-site. This course provides the perfect starting point for progression onto an apprenticeship, helping you take the first step towards a rewarding career.
What is a Study Programmes?
A Study Programme is a course designed for 16-18 year olds who want to progress onto an apprenticeship but don’t feel quite ready. A Study Programme will help you develop essential skills, gain industry-specific knowledge, and become more employable.

This study programme covers:
- Health, safety and welfare in construction
- Principles of building construction, information and communication
You will learn how to:
- apply plastering materials to interiors
- fix dry lining and plasterboards to interiors
- lay sand and cement screeds
- apply plastering materials to external backgrounds
- produce reverse moulds for fibrous work
- casting and fixing fibrous plasterwork
You will be required to attend the Greater Manchester SkillCentre up to three days per week.
Additional attendance will be required if you have not yet passed your maths and/or English.
Yes, you will receive an allowance of up to £25 per week.
On successful completion, you will achieve a City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Plastering.
To apply for this qualification, you must have achieved:
- GCSE grade 2 or above in maths and English, or
- Functional Skills Level 1 in maths and English
The course is FREE for anyone aged 16-18.
