The Access to Higher Education Diploma in Social Sciences provides a strong foundation in key subject areas related to the study of society and human behaviour.
The course typically includes:
Psychology – understanding human behaviour, mental processes and psychological theories
Sociology – exploring social structures, inequalities and cultural influences
Criminology – examining crime, justice and the legal system
Research Skills – learning how to collect, analyse and present data
Academic Writing & Study Skills – building confidence in essay writing, referencing and critical thinking
These units are designed to prepare you for university-level study and give you a head start on a wide range of degrees in the social sciences.
The course will improve your academic, vocational and personal skills; it will also improve your CV and boost your confidence. Successful candidates will be awarded a nationally recognised Access to HE Diploma awarded by Ascentis. The diploma is approved by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and is accepted for entry to a wide range of universities and higher education institutions.
If you're aged 19 to 23 and don’t already have a full Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for full funding through the Skills Funding Agency.
If you’re aged 19 to 23 and already hold A Levels or another Level 3 qualification — or if you’re 24 or over — you can apply to have your course fees covered by Student Finance England (SFE). The outstanding balance of your Access to HE Diploma loan will be written off once you complete your degree.
