Skills Bootcamp in the Fundamentals of Renewable Energy Types

This Skills Bootcamp covers the fundamental concepts and operation of renewable energy generation systems which may be used in energy transition plans to achieve net zero targets.

This Skills Bootcamp is delivered at our Green Skills Academy in Trafford Park, Manchester; home to the latest green technology equipment enabling businesses and individuals to gain the knowledge and skills which will place Greater Manchester at the forefront of emerging technologies.

Attendance is required for 2 days per week for 6 weeks.

Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills, with an offer of a job interview with an employer on completion.

On successful completion, you will achieve two qualifications:

  • Level 3 Award in Fundamentals of Renewable Energy Types
  • Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment

This training has been made possible and is free to individuals thanks to Greater Manchester Combined Authority securing funding for Skills Bootcamps, forming part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and funded through the Department of Education’s National Skills Fund.

What does the course cover?

On this 6-week course, you will complete the following modules:

Week 1 - Health & Safety 

  • Basic health & safety elements to ensure safe working environment

Week 2 - Wind Energy

  • Know and understand the basic principles of wind resource and production
  • Identify, describe and evaluate locations to maximise wind energy, measure strength of wind conditions and describe how wind speed impacts on the efficiency of a wind turbine

 

Week 3 - Solar Energy

  • Know and understand the basic principles of solar power including describing, identifying and listing a range of applications, power devices and energy sources

 

Week 4 -Water Energy

  • Know and understand the basic physical principles of how water resources can be used as an energy resource
  • Understand how different elements can generate usable power such as lakes, rivers, tides and waves

 

Week 5 - Introduction to Heat Source Pumps

  • Know and understand heat source pumps installation and use

 

Week 6 - Soft skills

Including mental health, communication and digital skills, CV writing, interview techniques and employer interview

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this Skills Bootcamp however, you must be eligible for funding to apply, please see the section below - Fully Funded Entry Criteria.

This Skills Bootcamp is FREE if you are aged 19+ and:

  • Employed or self-employed either full-time or part-time
  • Unemployed
  • Live or in Greater Manchester
