Skills Bootcamps – part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs – are flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer.

This training has been made possible and is free to individuals thanks to Greater Manchester Combined Authority securing funding for Skills Bootcamps, forming part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and funded through the Department of Education’s National Skills Fund.

This Skills Bootcamps is free for anyone aged 19+ living in the North West of England who is:

  • Employed either full-time or part-time
  • Unemployed
  • Self-employed
  • A serving prisoner due to be released within 6 months of completion of a Skills Bootcamp and those on temporary release

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible applicants.

What does the course cover?

This Skills Bootcamp teaches the skills to get you started in a career in cloud computing.

Week One - Introduction to Cloud and Python Basics

Week Two - Introduction to Software Defined Networking and Python Basics

Week Three - Data Equipment & Deployment Devices and Python Intermediate

Week Four - Service Models Private vs Hosted and Python Intermediate

Week Five - Redundancy & High Availability and Data Analytics

Week Six - Security & Endpoint Protection and Data Analytics

Week Seven and Eight - AWS Cloud Practitioner and Data Analytics

Week Nine and Ten - AWS Cloud Practitioner and Final Projects

Week Eleven and Twelve - Employability Skills

AWS modules include:

  • Introduction to AWS
  • Computing in the cloud
  • Global infrastructure and reliability
  • Networking
  • Storage & databases
  • Monitoring and analytics
  • Pricing and support
  • Migration and innovation

Data modules include:

  • Datasets and common sources of data
  • How to access and extract data
  • How to collate and format data in line with industry standards
  • Analysis management and presentation tools
  • Communication methods, formats and techniques
  • Basic statistical methods and data modelling
  • Algorithms for common problem solving
  • Ways of validating data, legal and regulatory requirements
  • Data in the digital world

Soft skills employability skills are embedded throughout the duration of the Skills Bootcamp alongside technical content.

Commercial environment focus:

  • Working in an agile environment
  • Mastering Kanban, timesheets and Trello
  • Lifecycle of a technical and cloud-based project
  • Development and technical responsibilities to project managers and client-services
  • How to work with project managers/tests
  • How to approach problem solving in tech

Employability, Communications and Soft Skills:

  • Working in a team and understanding where Junior Cloud Developers fit in typical structure
  • Understanding the traits of a valuable team member
  • Presentation skills; internal and external lightning talks
  • Taking part in daily stand ups with the cohort
  • High degree of self-awareness and empathy
  • Taking and giving constructive feedback
When will I attend?

Attendance is required:

  • Monday to Friday 9.30am - 4.30pm
What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this course however, you must be eligible for funding to apply, please see the section below - Fully Funded Entry Criteria.

Our Skills Bootcamps are free for anyone aged 19+ who is:

  • Must live in the Northwest, Yorkshire or Humber region
