Powering Up Professional Skills (PUPS)

This fully-funded course is designed to offer you valuable insight into a variety of people management workshops that will help you to develop the key knowledge and skills of the Staff Management profession.

Online Learning

This course is ideal for those who are in full-time employment and unable to be released from the business for a condensed course. This pathway also includes optional weekly drop-in support sessions.

You do not have to be in a Managerial role to complete this course

This training is funded by Greater Manchester Combined Authority as part of its three-year Skills for Growth programme, which has been made possible through the European Social Fund.

When does the course start?

What will the course cover?

To achieve this course you must complete the mandatory unit and three optional units from the below:

Mandatory unit – Management and leadership

  • Projects to achieve results
  • Problem-solving and decision making
  • Operational management and developing relationships

Option 1 – Digital Skills

  • Using devices and handling information
  • Staying safe online
  • Communicating online
  • Creating and editing

Option 2 – Developing people

  • Facilitation skills
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Information, advice and guidance (IAG)
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)

Option 3 – Well Workforce

  • Wellbeing at work
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • People-behaviours and values
  • Culture and behaviour

Option 4 – Customer Services

  • Building and developing relationships
  • Dealing with conflict and challenge
  • Influencing skills
  • Interpersonal and communication skills

Option 5 – Conflict Management

  • Introduction to conflict management
  • Conflict risk assessment
  • Preventing conflict
  • Handling conflict

Option 6 – Mental Health

  • Introduction to mental health
  • Mental health awareness
  • Dealing with stress
  • Dealing with anxiety


What will I achieve?

On successful completion, you will achieve a Level 3 Award in Principles of Management and Leadership.

You will also achieve a broader understanding of some of the elements of People Management and Support.

What is the duration of the course?

8 weeks, part-time.

Attendance is required 1 day per week.

What are the entry requirements?

To apply for a place on this fully-funded course, you must be employed and live or work in the Greater Manchester area.
