Level 1 Bricklaying Study Programme

This Study Programme is for school or college leavers aged 16 to 18 who are wanting progress on to an apprenticeship in the construction industry.

A Study Programme (also known as a Pre-Apprenticeship) is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours which you will need to progress on to an apprenticeship, employment or further study.

Whilst on this Study Programme you will receive an allowance of up to £25 per week.

When does the course start?

September 2022.

What does the course cover?

On this Study Programme, you will complete the following activities:

  • Blocklaying
  • Bricklaying 
  • Cavity walling 

The Study Programme covers:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Principles of building construction, information and communication

You will contribute to setting out and building of masonry structures up to damp proof course.

What will I achieve?

On successful completion, you will achieve a Level 1 in Bricklaying.

Once you have achieved a Level 1 in Bricklaying, you will then be able to progress onto further trade qualifications such as a Level 2 Bricklaying Apprenticeship.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this Study Programme. Prior to enrolment, you will be required to complete an initial assessment.


When will I attend?

You will attend the Greater Manchester SkillCentre two days per week with a further day where you will work from home on set self-study materials.

How much does the course cost?

The course is FREE for anyone aged 16-18.
